Helpful Hints For Ordering & Serving Our Cakes

Through the years we have noticed that these things ring true….
• The best time to order custom-decorated cakes from us is….early in the morning!
We would love to have quiet time just to sit and chat with you about the details of your event and how we can create the perfect cake to finish off your celebration! If you can possibly visit us between 9 am and 12 noon….that is the best time because our shop is so much quieter then! We try our best at all hours of the day….but mornings are definitely the best!!!!!
• Trust us enough to allow us some creative freedom and interpretation!
Our cake decorators are great at putting together a theme for a cake…including adjusting color combinations and adding extra touches and embellishments such as special borders, etc. to cakes as they create them….when they are given that opportunity!!!! If you will give us some flexibility with your cake design….we will strive to ultra impress! When we are “boxed in” with the specific details of an order…there is no room for their creative imaginations to work their way into your cake and the end result is usually not as impressive. So…relax and let us surprise you a little!
• Serving our cakes….
To slice our cake, please use a METAL knife and metal cake server….not plastic…to slice and serve our cakes! A serrated knife (such as a bread knife even) works best.
If you are serving a large round cake or a custom-shaped cake, visually pretend that it is square instead! You will slice the cake strip by strip starting from the outer right edge of the cake working back toward your left. A 1” by 2” piece of cake is ususually appropriate.
Additionally, our cakes must be served at room temperature since both the cake and icing are made with real butter, not shortening! Please make sure we know what time you will be serving your cake so that we can make sure to pull it out of refrigeration ahead of time for you if needed. We never freeze our cakes, but we do keep them chilled at 39 degrees to keep them fresh and the decorations perfect! Cakes which have fondant covering them require additional time before being served due to the insulation factor that the fondant gives them!
• A note about fondant….
We must use fondant in order to create some design details on cakes. However, if you particularly do not want fondant, PLEASE indicate that to us when you are ordering. We can guide you in a different direction so that we don’t have to use fondant on your cake. We honestly prefer the taste of our buttercream and cream cheese icings, of course, but sometimes must use the fondant to develop the finished look on particular types of cakes…especially custom-shaped cakes!
• Verify spelling with us….again and again!
We really want to get this right…so verify it with us while you are ordering AND ALSO when you arrive to pick up your cake. We can easily fix any mistakes when you pick up your cake…but once it leaves our shop we are not able to accept responsibility for these errors.
We truly want to place all the magic we can into your cake from our bakery! Let us know how we do!
